Customer Review: This really is a great record. Like another reviewer said, it gets better with every listen. Great albums are usually like that, the more you play them the better they get. This bluesy, twangy, folksy, swampy.......all in the right places. The production enhances the music too instead of... more info
Customer Review: There is a huge amount of Muddy Waters-compilations out there, and while MCA/Chess's two-disc, 50-track "Anthology 1947-1972" is certainly more definitive than this Geffen compilation, it does offer a very good overview of Muddy Waters' career. Opening with the classic 1948 single "I Can't Be... more info
Customer Review: Almost exactly seventy years ago, a man who was then known as Robert Johnson passed away. He was poisoned, presumably by a houseman/barkeep whose wife had been flirting with him on an August Evening. Around the same time, a king pin of the then small, homely music industry sent out a middle man to... more info
Customer Review: There are some truly haunting performances here, and some funny ones, and some of everything, really. This stuff is so far deeper and weirder and spookier than any folk I've ever heard. It's the motherlode; Harry Smith wandered around and got these recordings before radio started, and thus we get... more info
Customer Review: I was pretty J L Hooker stupid when I bought this. I only bought it to have a copy of 'Boom Boom'. But this is pretty good stuff. The guy who is mainly into hard rock and heavy metal is finding this very good. There are a lot of good songs encompassing his career. If you are just beginning to delve... more info
Customer Review: I loved this movie so much and the soundtrack is amazing stuff. Samuel L. Jackson really brings it in the three songs he sings on the album, and all of the other songs are astounding, too. If you like the blues, get this album, if you've seen/liked the movie or not. It's worth it.
Customer Review: Good stuff, but bigger, better Muddy in CHess Box 'cuz there's more of it. Compare and see that, basically, this plus more is on that collection. Editorial Reviews

Customer Review: For all those pursuing deep blues this is essential listening. Sound quality is excellent. Guitar playing is rough and ready by modern technical standards, but hey - that's the way it is - all feel. Vocals are stunning. Great to hear his homage to Patton's 'Moon going down' -'Empire State Express'.... more info
Customer Review: Score one more for Rhino. This label really does know how to find obscure cuts and bring them into standout various artist collections. The only gripe I could have is this disk sounds a bit monaural in a mix, but I'll still use it--it's fun to mix up a little blues with the typical sugary Christmas... more info
