Customer Review: What incredibly beautiful music this is! Puccini's "Turandot" is my all time favorite and this cast gives a stellar performance on his final, unfinished work. I bought this CD only because I wanted Pavarotti's version of "Nessun Dorma," but I was pleasantly surprised by how wonderful the full... more info
Customer Review: I wonder how the sudden $20 increase imposed in fall 2008 is justified - considering this recording was made 10 years ago and is so old that modern Macs can't even open the extras? I notice the Herreweghe St John Passion has also just jumped twenty bucks. What's going on?
Customer Review: This is the first recording of "Lucia di Lammermoor" that I've ever bought, and I do believe that this is going to be the last the I've ever bought. It's an almost perfect recording, with a clever conductor and a spectacular cast of singers. Joan Sutherland and Luciano Pavarotti sound amazing when... more info
Customer Review: I started out with the Levine/Met dvd of this opera/cycle. As most reviewers know, that dvd tends to make the more subtle, quiet portions of the Ring seem endless (just check out the Die Walkure portion). I can't knock that dvd collection too much, because it at least gave me an idea of a more... more info
Customer Review: There is not much more that can be said about this recording. It is one of the finest performances on CD. The pairing of Callas and Corelli is one for the ages and results in a performance that will not be bettered. The other singers, especially Christa Ludwig, all add to the magnificence of the... more info
Customer Review: Mozart's opera "The Marriage of Figaro" has its basis in the old comedia d'arte and in opera buffa. In Figaro, Mozart combined these comic, playful elements with themes of seriousness, as his music explored human frailty, character, love, and forgiveness. The "Marriage of Figaro" was Mozart's... more info
Customer Review: This is just the third opera I've owned and I LOVE it. Seriously, it is beautiful. I listen to it at the YMCA while walking on the treadmill - and the time flies by. I even manage to follow the libretto during slower moments. Even if you're a newbie like me, buy this opera.
Customer Review: This is surely among the better Rosenkavalier recordings. In its day it had no equal. Can Christa Ludwig ever do wrong? I don't think so. She is sublime as is Karajan. A young Nicolai Gedda is a treat. My problem is Stitch-Randall with that annoying vibrato.
Schwarzkopf herself I find a bit... more info
Customer Review: I was lucky enough to get a seat at the Metropolitan Opera House to see the first production of Einstein On the Beach. The production was dazzling, the music compelling, the sound was "otherworldly, lunar." I bought the 4 Record set on Tomato Records, loved it, taped it, and bought an additional... more info
Customer Review: I wanted to learn about opera and found the A-Z of Opera CD and book. I couldn't believe it when they got here. The price for the CD alone was a bargain, but this book is fantastic. It has the the complete A-Z of Opera from the Naxos website. That's plot synopses, cast lists and background details... more info
