Editorial Review:
#1 New York Times bestselling author Nelson DeMille delivers the long-awaited follow-up to his classic novel The Gold Coast. When John Sutter's aristocratic wife killed her mafia don lover, John left America and set out in his sailboat on a three-year journey around the world, eventually settling in London. Now, ten years later, he has come home to the Gold Coast, that stretch of land on the North Shore of Long Island that once held the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America, to attend the imminent funeral of an old family servant. Taking up temporary residence in the gatehouse of Stanhope Hall, John finds himself living only a quarter of a mile from Susan who has also returned to Long Island. But Susan isn't the only person from John's past who has reemerged: Though Frank Bellarosa, infamous Mafia don and Susan's ex-lover, is long dead, his son, Anthony, is alive and well, and intent on two missions: Drawing John back into the violent world of the Bellarosa family, and exacting revenge on his father's murderer--Susan Sutter. At the same time, John and Susan's mutual attraction resurfaces and old passions begin to reignite, and John finds himself pulled deeper into a familiar web of seduction and betrayal. In THE GATE HOUSE, acclaimed author Nelson Demille brings us back to that fabled spot on the North Shore -- a place where past, present, and future collides with often unexpected results.

This man needs an editor
One thought... about 250 less pages.
One more... where's the plot? I normally enjoy DeMille's books but I got about 1/2
way through this one and gave up. At that point there
was very little plot development, just ENDLESS descriptions
of every scene.

not the best but still pretty good
ok, this this isn't a DeMille's best. FINE. We get it. Still, if you love his books as much as I do, you'll enjoy this one. It's not a page turner but it's a solid work, that explains a lot of what happened in Gold Coast. I'm glad I read this book.

A book about nothing
Publishers Weekly said that the book "takes its' time getting anywhere. What an understatement! I'm on page 578 of a 678 page book and next to nothing has happened. Unless I want to count the "hero" bonking his ex-wife five times a day and being sarcastic at least 3 times a page. My advice - don't waste your time on this piece of self-indulgent trash. I'm sorry I did.

Less Action, Less Violence, Just as Much Fun
First off, you really need to have read "The Gold Coast" to fully appreciate this book. "The Gate House" features many of the same characters dealing with the aftermath of things that happened ten years before. Attorney John Sutter has returned to America after a ten-year absence since his wife at that time, Susan, murdered her lover, the mafia's don Bellarosa. John's narrative is, again, light-hearted, tremendously sarcastic, and witty. He is juggling many things in his life. He has returned to Long... more info
